Visitors from Cusco

Cooling off in Lago Sauce.  It has been very hot lately.

It's hard to believe that the students taught by Lourdes from class 1 through 6 at the Kusi Kawsay school in Pisac near Cusco are now about to graduate.  It was wonderful that they and their tutor as well as two parents all elected to make the journey from Pisac to Sauce for their 'promocion' which is Spanish for their end of year class field trip.

We were very happy to receive this class of 9 students, most of whom we have known since they were six years old and show them around the place we now call home.

Field trip to Moyabamba

We have now been offering a venue for the senior citizens of our community of Sauce to get together for crafts activities and companionship for over four years now.  We have also offered the chance for members of this group to go on various outings.  Last year we took a group of grandmothers to the city of Lamas and this year we went even further afield to the regional capital of Moyabamba which is situated over four hours away from Sauce and involved an overnight stay in an hotel as well as visits to an orchid nursery and a banquet-style lunch in an outdoor restaurant.  A good time was had by all!

We welcome a new volunteer to Estrella de Sauce

Victoria is from Mannheim in Germany and brings a lot of her natural enthusiasm for life into her work here.  Victoria will stay for one year doing voluntary educational and social work.

In this photo she is accompanying a group of grandmothers during a recent field trip to the city of Moyabamba.

Another volunteer in Sauce

We welcome Hans from Holland who has been travelling in South America but has decided to stay with us in Sauce for a few weeks and has been helping out with various projects.  He is a careful and meticulous painter who has been putting color between the bricks in our new cafe and painting the platform of our sailing catamaran which we hope to relaunch over the next few weeks after extensive repairs.

Hans is staying up at our 2 hectare (5 acre) horticulture site called 'Fundo Skydance' where we have a recently constructed jungle-style bedroom plus kitchen and bathroom.

We are interested in developing some raised bed gardens at this site and would welcome anyone who might have an interest in staying with us and helping us with this project.

Gardeners wanted

We have a rustic 'tambo' or jungle cabin standing empty on our 2 hectare (5 acre) piece of land with beautiful views over 'la laguna' (the lake). There is a small kitchen and a bathroom with warm shower as well.

While we cannot offer a salary we would be interested in a single person or couple coming to live in the tambo, designing a vegetable garden and beginning to work building some raised beds.

Machu Picchu revisited

After working for ten weeks in the USA it was good to take a break and travel with Lourdes and friends Karen, Malcolm and Evelyn to first spend time with our peruvian family in Lima and then travel to Cusco where the highlight was a return to the magnificent site of Machu Picchu.

It is always an incredible experience despite the throngs of tourists and the fact that we have been there many times before.

Welcome new volunteers to 'Estrella de Sauce'.

Our new volunteer Evelyn travelled with us up to Machu Picchu recently
We now have four volunteers with a widely spaced age range.  Mirjam and Luka are both 18 years old and come from Germany.  Luka will be with us one year and Mirjam until February.  They are already both very enthusiastic about living in this tropical place with its culture so very different from their home country.  Luka is from Muhlheim and Mirjam is from Donau-Eschen.

Evelyn is 50 years old and comes from Switzerland.  She has worked with special-needs children for many years so will be of great help in our program for children with 'habilidades differentes' as we say in Spanish.  She plans to stay 6 months with us.

Evelyn
Malcolm will only be with us for 3 weeks.  He is a handyman so will be helping me with my various construction projects and ongoing repairs on our sailing catamaran.  He is 77 years old and attended the same Waldorf school as me in Kings Langley Hertfordshire UK so we have a lot to talk about.

Lakeside cottage available for rent

This beautiful wooden lakeside 'casita' with a traditional palm-thatch roof is a self-contained 2 storey structure with a bedroom containing two single beds that can be pushed together to make a king size upstairs.  It has big french doors that can be opened up to get a magnificent view of Laguna Sauce and there are balconies front and back.

Downstairs there is a small kitchen/living room and a bathroom with warm shower.  Another big balcony surrounds the downstairs area and is a great place to hang a hammock.

It is located about 25 feet back from the lakeshore, is very private and is fully equipped with towels, sheets, cooking utensils etc.

Please contact me for daily, weekly or monthly rental rates.
